Newborn baby rushed to UK hospital after 'drinking Cow & Gate milk'

COW & Gate has launched an investigation after a mum claimed her daughter fell ill after drinking its baby milk.
Mum Kelly Green says she was feeding her daughter Esme the baby milk when she noticed it was a mouldy green on December 18 last year.
The 21-year-old mum was then left terrified when Esme turned ill the next day and started projectile vomiting and suffering diarrhoea.
Kelly, from Newcastle, then called the NHS 111 helpline and was told to take her girl to a walk-in clinic.
But her worst fears were realised when doctors at the clinic then rushed Esme, now six-weeks-old, to hospital.
Kelly a full time mum from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, said: "It was the worst thing in the world. I couldn't do anything for Esme.
"It was heartbreaking. I'm a first time mum and I was going out of my mind with worry.
"The doctors told me I had to try to keep giving her water because she was vomiting if we gave her milk.
"Medics were checking her blood pressure and her oxygen levels. Every two hours a consultant came to observe her and check her temperature.
"At first the doctors thought she had a viral infection but after doing tests they said it was the milk that had made her so poorly."
Fortunately Esme was discharged from hospital the next day and Kelly complained to Cow & Gate about the milk.
The firm has now launched an investigation into the incident.
A spokesman for Cow & Gate Milk said: "We were sorry to hear about Ms Green's experience.
We always want our milks to reach parents in the best possible condition and we have asked Ms Green to return the bottle to us so that we can investigate.
"Our milks are made and packed in a highly controlled and hygienic environment and each bottle is thoroughly checked before leaving our factory.
“But, clearly Ms Green's experience was not satisfactory and we are committed to finding out if this happened in our factory.
“We will be keeping in touch with Ms Green as we investigate."

Oprah highlights story of black woman raped by white men

Oprah  Winfrey shared the spotlight with another woman in her speech accepting a lifetime achievement award at the  Golden Globes  on Sunday night. Recy Taylor has not been a well-known figure, but Winfrey's touching on her story and a new documentary are bringing attention to an incident of racial injustice and sexual violence in the Jim Crow South. Taylor, who died on Dec. 29 at the age of 97, was the victim of a violent rape as a young woman. In 1944, Taylor was 24 years old and walking home from church in Abbeville, Alabama, when she was abducted and raped by six white men. Some accounts say seven white men were involved.
