Mom whose 4 kids were killed in house fire dies

Hospital officials say the mother of four children who all died in a house fire in Pratt has died.
Wichita television station KSNW reportsthat officials with St. Francis Hospital in Wichita confirmed that Charee Eggleston was taken off life support Saturday and died soon after.
Eggleston suffered burns and was flown Thursday morning from Pratt to St. Francis Hospital. Her children, the youngest a baby, died after being trapped in the home's basement. Several other adults survived the fire.
Authorities have not announced the cause of the fire. The state fire marshal launched an investigation the day of the fire.
Pratt is about 80 miles (128.74 kilometers) west of Wichita.

German Marcel Hesse jailed for 'sadistic' double killing

A German teenager who stabbed to death his neighbour's nine-year-old son and then killed an ex-school friend while on the run has been jailed for life. Marcel Hesse, now 20, lured the boy to his basement in the town of Herne last March, stabbing him 52 times. He bragged of the murder online then stabbed the 22-year-old ex-school friend after he was confronted about the killing. Prosecutors said the crimes were committed "to satisfy his sadism". Hesse, who lived with his parents, was unemployed and was described as socially withdrawn. He lured the boy from a nearby family home by pretending to need help with a ladder. Turpin case: California couple deny torturing 'shackled siblings'

The parents accused of holding their 13 children in shackles at a California home have pleaded not guilty. David Turpin, 56, and Louise Turpin, 49, are facing charges of torture, abuse and false imprisonment. They were arrested after their daughter escaped from their home where police found some of her siblings shackled and severely malnourished. The children, who are aged between two and 29 , have been treated in hospital since being freed on Monday. Mr Hestrin said that the couple had allegedly punished their children by tying them up - first using ropes and later chaining them to their beds with padlocks. He said the alleged punishments would last weeks or months, and intensified over time. Prosecutors said circumstantial evidence showed the children were not released from their chains to go to the toilet.
